Food
Hon Kee Porridge is specialize in serving different kinds of porridge, for example fish porridge(生鱼粥), chicken porridge(鸡丝粥), century egg porridge(皮蛋粥), pork meatballs porridge(猪肉丸粥) and pork innards porridge(猪杂粥).
Anyway, the eatery's top draw is always the fish porridge. The raw fish slices is always served with a dash of sesame oil and lots of shredded ginger, spring onion and coriander. Next, customer can cook their own raw fish slices by emptying it into a bowl of piping hot porridge. This is brilliant as cooking a big pot of fish porridge would cause the fish meat to overcook and crumble. And by adding them fresh customer can get the best flavor. Renowned for its authentic ingredients and well-controlled fire, the porridge is superbly smooth. Accompany this with a plate of sliced chinese crullers(油炸鬼) will heighten the overall sensation.
Another special is the pork innards porridge. The porridge is serving with crispy fried intestines(炸肠) or patron usually orders it as ala Carte fried intestines. The crunchy pieces, a little sweet, get slightly softened when dip into a hot bowl of porridge and add a new dimension of textures as well.
Other than these, the other kinds of porridge taste good as well. The porridge based which is warming, moistening and easy to digest should be similar, just that the topping is different.
Conclusion
Overall, Hon Kee Porridge(汉记靓粥)is definitely a highly recommended stall/restaurant, especially for those who tired of rich, oily and meaty food, the light taste is a welcome alternative. Based on the belief of the owner, when each time a bowl is brought to the table, the goal is for the diner to experience the authenticity of their family's recipes.
