Maxim's Cakes is a chain store in Penang that currently have 5 outlets around Penang island, including Penang road, Pulau Tikus, Tanjong Bungah, Jelutong and Ayer Itam (Please refer reference at bottom of article for contacts). Other than selling different kind of cakes, this chain store also sells different kinds of cookies, donuts, breads and most importantly their famous Gelato, which is a kind of Italian ice-cream that starts selling here since 2007.

Gelato, Italian ice cream
Maxim's Cakes sells around 39 flavors of Gelato, all with very nice presentation in their freezer. Some of them are even alcoholic. According to the shop, the ingredients of their gelato are imported from Italy, which makes high in taste but low in fat gelato. These gelatos are hand-made daily, making sure it is fresh always. While talking about the taste, it is very creamy and smooth. The price of gelato is quite cheap compare to some other ice cream brands. If customer wants to try more flavor once, it is recommended to take the "double mini" order (As shown in Gelato menu 1 below), which cost just RM3.50 for 2 scopes with different flavors. Although gelato looks similar to ordinary ice cream, it actually different from the making process. The explanation below which taken from last two paragraphs of the article on left hand side "What is artisan Gelato?" is best to explain the differences.
" Gelato and conventional ice cream have a clear difference when it comes to fat content and density. Gelato contains only 10% butterfat compared to ice cream’s typical 18% to 26% butterfat content. Premium and super premium ice creams contain an even higher percentage. Less fat means gelato has more flavour compared to ice cream as additional fat in ice cream coats the tongue which dulls the flavour.

Density or overrun is the air which is incorporated into gelato during the churning process. Although air is not added into gelato, it makes up of 25% of the total end product. Ice cream however has air pumped into it during the churning process as much as 50% to even 100% to increase the quantity of the end product but at the same time it produces a lower quality product ".

As a whole, gelato may not as yummy as ice cream since it uses less artificial favoring, it provides healthier alternative for ice-cream lovers.

Cookies
Maxim's Cakes has great varieties of cookies selling in this store and most of them are comparable cheap, with the price of around RM0.70 for two pieces. Customer can mix and pick any two pieces from different kind of flavors. The cookies are with comforting aroma and it taste great.



Cakes
Maxim's Cakes sells different kinds of cakes including ice cream cakes, which cost starts from RM32. The variety of cakes and the designs are really eye-candy. They even provide different wedding cakes with some display models in the shop.

Donuts
Maxim's Cakes does not offer great variety of donuts like other donuts outlets but they do sell fresh and warm donuts. The shop usually prepare the donuts around noon and that is the time where customer can get to buy most of its varieties. They only make it in small quantities.

Other infos regarding the store
While talking about the environment here, it is very warm and friendly. The decoration, the soft light and the foods which are selling here let their customer feel like it is still in Christmas. There are couple of dining table here inside and outside of the shop, to let customer have their food here.

Maxim's Cake also give out some rewards to their customer. After 8pm above, there is a 15% discounts for all the pastries and breads. Besides, there is a point collection card system in which for each full scope purchased, customer will entitle for 1 chop. Collect 15 chops and customer will get 1 soft toy and 1 single scoop for free. However, the valid period is only 1 month.
