Penang:Francis Western Food
From Malaysia - Wiki Street Food
Francis Western Food is operating by Francis and it is located at the traffic junction of one of the most busy street in Pulau Tikus, Penang, which is Jalan Burmah. This western food restaurant is totally different compare to most of the cafe or coffee house. In stead it is an unpretentious, low profile style restaurant which is running their business in an undecorated world war two style shop. Anyway being one of the famous in town, Francis Western Food has gain many good reviews by foodies.
The cook, Francis was once working as a chef at a well known hotel in Singapore but then decided to own his western food stall in Penang. Although he is running this small stall now, customer can easily feel that he is still setting a very high expectation in preparing the dishes. Customer can get to see the chef in action, baking and frying dishes after dishes almost all by himself. Because of this, the waiting time sometimes will drag until very long, depends on how many customer.
While talking about the food, Francis Western Food serves more than 40 types of dishes, not including their special of the day. Except spaghetti, all serving come with potato salad/hash brown, chef's special coleslaw and one or two pieces of garlic bread. Most of the main dishes here are toasted with layers of fruits for example orange, pineapple, peach and wrapped with cheese, ham, tomato, button mushrooms. This makes the dish very juicy and the sweet juices of the meat is retained. This kind of cooking method is also more natural and healthier compare to a lot of western restaurants that prefer deep fried or adding a lot of manufactured sauces.
The price here is quite cheap compare to the high quality and delicious food. Overall, Francis Western Food has a much better offering at a fair price than some other western food stalls offer. It is a good place for casual dinner with friends and family.
