From Malaysia - Wiki Street Food

Jump to: navigation, search

Hameed Pata Mee Sotong stall probably is the one which sells best Mee Goreng(Fried noodle) in Penang. Customer from different racial love this simple dish of noodle and most of them willing to spend up to 45 minutes during lunch time just to have a dish of Mee Sotong(Fried noodle with cuttlefish).

Background

Hameed Pata Mee Sotong is a Muslim stall. Initially this stall owned by a Indian man name Hameed and currently his son, who is also a degree holder, prefer to take care of this family business. The stall only open at lunch time everyday and closed on Sunday.

Location

This little stall is actually located in a small food court next to the famous Fort Cornwallis, near Dewan Undangan Negeri Pulau Pinang and right across Wisma Pelaut.

Food

The most famous dish of the stall is definitely its Mee Sotong, which is fried noodle with cuttlefish. Although the ingredients they used are pretty simple, the gravy and cuttlefish make this dish outstanding. The dish actually has all the flavor, sweet, sour and spicy. Sweetness from the gravy used to fry the noodles, hint of sourness from the lime and spiciness from the delicious cuttlefish. Taste wise, it is stunning good, with the slightly wet but very fragrant noodle and chewy cuttlefish. Anyway please beware that it is quite spicy.

Besides Mee Sotong, the stall also serves Mee Rebus and other types of fried noodles. But usually people come here for their famous Mee Sotong. For price, it is only RM3.50 to RM5.00 for a generous portion, which is quite cheap.

Environment

The stall is located in a hawker center and also shaded by a big aged tree. It is quite windy probably due to the location is not far from the beach. Anyway one negative impression to the hawker center is there are quite a lot of crows around, which is less hygiene.
