Penang:Presgrave Street Hawker Centre (三条路小贩中心)

When the night falls in Penang Komtar area, a lot of restaurants, hawker centres, food stalls are just about to start their business. Most of these yummy place are not located at the main road, in fact they are some where around the corner within those old style shop lots which build during British's colonial. Among them, Presgrave Street Hawker Centre (三条路小贩中心) is definitely one of these places that people could have a real Penang taste.
The Hawker centre is located within walking distance from Komtar, anyway it is still able to preserve the original Penang old town feeling to visitor, due to the hawker centre is surrounded by old style shop lots. The hawker centre is actually a combined of two this kind of shop lots, and there are around 10 food stalls inside or at the road side of the shop lots.
Among these food stalls, the most famous one should be Hokkien Prawn Mee/Lor Mee (福建虾面/卤面) stall. The stall owner, Ng Bao Jin (吴宝金) said that this stall started since 1991. The key factor that could determine tastiness of Hokkien Mee (福建虾面) is the soup. Whereby her soup is being cook for more than 2 hours before business starts with fresh prawn's head, pork and pig's bone. That's why the mee is so tasty. Another credit for this stall is they provide different kinds of "add-on" to customer. For example Xiu Yok (烧肉), fish ball, pork, egg and many others.
Other than Hokkien Mee stall, Presgrave Street Hawker Centre also have stalls like Wan Tan Mee (云吞面), fried Gui Gak (炒粿块), fried oyster, bread and many other stalls. Some of them are average but some are quite good as well, for example the Wan Tan Mee stall's chinese dumpling. Overall the hawker centre is perfect for customer who wants to hunt for local taste with cheap price and within an old Penang style environment.
