Penang:Vintage Bulgaria Restaurant and Bar
From Malaysia - Wiki Street Food
Vintage Bulgaria probably is the first Bulgarian Cuisine restaurant in Penang and even Malaysia. The restaurant started their business around 2008 at Tanjung Bungah of Penang.
Background
Vintage Bulgaria Restaurant & Bar is owned by a Bulgarian family living in Penang. Their desire is to create the ambiance of a cozy Bulgarian home for the people in Penang to enjoy.
Location
The restaurant is situated just behind Mutiara Selera Food Court at the base of Pearl Hill. The famous German cuisine restaurant Ingolf's Kneipe German Restaurant and Bar is right next to this restaurant.
To go to this restaurant, just drive towards Batu Ferringhi from town. After passing by the Penang Swimming Club on the right and Caltex petrol station of the left, turn left at the traffic light junction and you should be able to see this restaurant, which is in same row with a 7-ELEVEN outlet.
Environment
The restaurant reflects a typical Bulgarian Country house with its basement, which is usually used for storage, its quaint wooden shutter windows, to keep the heat/cold out and the decorative window boxes which add to the authenticity of this unique property.
The surroundings of this restaurant is made of stones and wood. Large stones were stacked up as wall resembling European cottage decorated with wooden window frame. A candle and a pot of chrysanthemums were placed nicely on each table matched with checked table cloth. It gives customer the feeling of comfort and romantic.
Downstairs is a spacious dining area and more cozy. Walking up the stairs lead customer to the upper floor which has a dining area and a bar whereby diners get to enjoy a drink before the meal.
Food
Bulgarian cuisine is a representative of the cuisine of Southeastern Europe. Most Bulgarian dishes are oven baked, steamed, or in the form of stew. Pork meat is the most common meat in the Bulgarian cuisine.
In Vintage Bulgaria Restaurant & Bar, there is a wide range of mouth watering dishes to choose from the menu. The recommended appetizer is their Mushroom Soup with Vintage. For main dishes, some of the recommendations are Platter Bulgaria, Bulgarian Pork Djolan, Poachati Butterfish, Balkan Grilled stuffed Salmon Fillet, Chicken Stroganov and others. While the recommended dessert is Chocolate Crème Brulee. Anyway due to the environment and the quality of the dishes, the price is above average.
Among these, Platter Bulgaria is one of the signature dishes of the restaurant. It is a dish with hearty meaty platter of sausages, meat patties and pork fillet. The sausages and meat patties were made up of a mixture of beef and pork, which is good and infused with herbs and spices. The dish also served with a generous portion of steamed vegetables and potatoes. Anyway it might be a bit salty for locals.
