Food
Bukit Mertajam Yam Rice serves yam rice, preserved salted vegetable pork soup, stew soya sauce pork trotter as well as stew tofu and egg. Not to miss out the special chili paste with thick black sauce.
For salted vegetable pork soup, it is with different pork innards as ingredients, for example maw, blood, intestine, liver, tongue and kidney. Of course, it also contains meat, meat balls and some vegetables. Customer can customize the ingredient according to their preference, especially for those who do not take pig internals. Anyway the pig innards taste absolutely delicious without the offensive odour of innards. The soup itself uses pig bones to cook for hours until the fragrance and the taste blended well in the soup. It taste a bit sourish because they boil it with salted vegetables, and of cause it is delicious and able to stimulate the appetite. Customer can always request for replenishment and it is free of charge.
Another important food here is definitely their yam rice, which is boiled with the yam. Rich in traditional flavours, the home-grown yam is deep-fried and added with dried shrimps and seasoning sauce, which is then stirred vigorously till dried, so as to ensure even cooking. The rice is then slowly cooked under small flame till all the essence of the seasoning infiltrates into the rice. This fluffy Yam Rice complements very well with the peppery pig innards soup.
Other than that, pig trotter is also a great companion for yam rice meal. The best portion of this dish is with some fat rather than plain lean meat. It taste quite good and plays a perfect role as side dishes for yam rice meal.
