Perak:Paris Restaurant Hakka Mee
From Malaysia - Wiki Street Food
There is a stall in Ipoh which has been featured many times in newspaper, magazine and websites, which is the Hakka Mee stall in Jalan Sultan Iskandar Shah(休罗街), Ipoh. Based on some newspaper cuttings on the wall, even the famous celebrity Jacky Cheong came to the shop before. Besides, customer who reach this restaurant later than 10am, most probably their Young Dao Fu(釀豆腐) will be all sold out.
Background
The business was started since 1959 by Mr. Foo, and further passed on to the second generation, Foo brothers. The Foo brothers boast of their home made traditional method of noodle preparation, unique on its own in terms of taste and texture. Currently the main driver of this business is the third generation, (胡育刚).
Previously the stall was located inside restaurant Yin Yau Kui(宴友居茶室). Since the restaurant owner decided to increase their rental, they had shifted to this new place, Paris Restaurant, which is located just opposite to Yin Yau Kui Restaurant.
Food
The main dish of this stall definitely is their Hakka Mee(客家面). The noodle are freshly prepared with eggs and flour by themselves, without any preservatives. Then it is topped with minced pork, coated in a sticky sweet and salty sauce. By having this topping alone, it is quite salty, but when mixing it with the noodle, they complete each other perfectly. By adding some of the home-made garlic chili can make this noodle become tastier.
Besides the noodle, their Yong Tau Foo(釀豆腐), fish ball and meat ball are quite popular too. Again, these are also home-made food. The texture of the Yong Tao Fu is really smooth. The meat balls with smoked cuttlefish bits has a very nice chewy pork texture and quite tender.
