Sitiawan is a medium size town within Perak, Malaysia. The name of this town is actually coming from a legend. According to this legend, there was once, a large elephant drowned in the mud of low tide. However, the other elephant refused to left its partner alone and hung on to its friend, resulting in them drowning together in the rising tide. Thus the setia kawan (loyal friend) name was derived.
Nowadays, Sitiawan population has grown to 95,920 as of year 2000. Anyway the pace of this medium size town is still very slow. Some locals love to stay in coffee shops and have a relaxing moment; Some youngsters love to hang around along the main street with bicycle or motor; Some housewife love to visit neighbor houses and chit chat. All these make the town to become a harmonic place.
At the main street of Sitiawan there are a few stalls that sell great food. The most famous stalls probably are Cheng Brothers Kompyang (曾氏兄弟福州光饼) and James Cendol. These two stalls are famous not only among locals, but also tourist. Anyway to tourist, not many of them know that the Tzien Fatt Noodle Stall(健发面档) is also quite famous among locals.
This small little humble stall is located in a shop lot beside the main road, Jalan Lumut. According to the locals, the stall has been operating for at least 10 years. Within these 10 years, they still maintain their food quality and receive quite a lot of recognitions from Sitiawan residents. The stall is specialized in serving different kinds of noodles. One of their significant dish is their curry noodle, which the curry soup is quite thick and delicious. Other than that, the stall also sells laksa, hokkien mee and others. Although these dishes are simple, but taste great. Other than that, another quite famous way to enjoy the noodle is to mix different flavor together, like curry with laksa or Loh laksa.
Overall, dining in this slow pace and relaxing town with a bowl of tasty local food is definitely a great experience. The price is low, but the satisfaction that it can bring is high.
